The SD-1 produces a wonderfully distorted or fully distorted sound that responds just as precisely to your playing technique as a tube amp. In 1977, BOSS created a completely new stompbox category with the OD-1. For the first time, guitarists had access to natural overdrive sounds in a compact pedal form. The unique asymmetrical circuit produced a signal with harmonic distortion, replicating the beloved sound and feel of an overdriven tube amp even at lower volume levels. Four years later, this pioneering circuit design found its way into the more versatile SD-1, where the active tone control allowed players to shape the treble response as well as add body to the bass range.
